CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY
PERFORMED IN OLD ST. PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL
This past June, I was invited to play at the Young Adult Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral by the Archdiocese of New York. For the prayer time before Mass, I was asked to sing the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a prayer that developed out of the spiritual life of Sister Faustina, a Roman Catholic nun born in 1905 in Glogowiec, Poland.
The Divine Mercy Chaplet is an appeal to the mercy of God in light of the Cross of Jesus Christ. Such an appeal is never out of style or irrelevant. More than ever, it is a powerful prayer for the church to implore and invoke the mercy of God for a world that desperately needs it.
While walking from my hotel to the Cathedral, this melody appeared in my head and on my heart. The first time I sang it out loud was in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. I had the privilege of recording it a few months later with other musicians at the Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. This is that recording. I hope this blesses you and may the mercy of God be with you.
